Vegan Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip and Walnut Banana Bread
It was the middle of summer in Texas when I developed this recipe and I know it’s hot outside yall, but who can resist a fluffy vegan banana bread? I mean you can literally eat it for breakfast and an afternoon snack with peanut butter or almond butter smothered on top. To be honest with you I made this recipe three times before I decided to put it out into the internet world. I had my husband taste it, my dad, my mom and her co-workers just to make sure I was going to give you a good quality banana bread. And I am gonna let you in on a little secret none of them are vegan. In fact, my dad does not even agree with my lifestyle and when I tell him directly that something is vegan he shy’s away from trying any of the food I make. LOL. So when I made this recipe the first time, I told him I made some chocolate cake and he asked, “what’s in it” and I said “cake dad”. Well fast forward to today he has had most of the banana breads I baked all three times. Let me know in the comments below how you trick your family or children into eating a more vegan or plant-based cuisine I would love to know.
Ingredients for Fluffy Vegan Banana Bread
Now in this recipe I opted to use whole wheat flour because of the fiber content. I mean can you ever really have enough fiber. The addition of the cocoa powder is simply because who can resist chocolate. But if you do not enjoy chocolate simply omit it. I also added vegan chocolate chips and walnuts. These two ingredients were added for an extra crunch and are one hundred percent optional. I also used almond extract but this can be interchanged for double the amount of vanilla extract.
Storing Vegan Banana Bread
When it comes to banana bread it is hard to wonder how long it is good for because if we are being honest how long does any type of sweet bread last in our kitchens. With that being said I must still advise you that if for some reason you have left-overs this banana bread will last you six days in the refrigerator. Be sure to place it in an air-tight container or a good storage bag that will not let air inside. However, when you are ready to enjoy it the next day I find that for a better bite place it in the microwave for a minimum of thirty seconds so it can be warm. If you steer away from microwaves a toaster oven at 350F for five minutes will do the trick. And if you are feeling fancy and have an air fryer one to two minutes at 400F will do. Now the heat timing all depends on how warm or hot you enjoy banana bread. I like for it to be hot enough to melt a bit of the peanut butter that I smother on top a nice fluffy slice.

I made this for my chocolate and banana loving toddlers. It was a hit! I just substituted applesauce for the oil. Delish! Thanks for sharing.
Not only it looks beautiful, but it is adjusted to specific diets/lifestyles and easy to follow! Another great recipe, congrats!
I love your idea of adding some peanut butter to a slice- yum!! This looks so moist and you can’t go wrong with a good banana bread
I love banana bread and can’t wait to make this. I literally have to hide bananas in my house from my boys so that they can get ripe, LOL! Guess I will be doing that now so I can make this.
I am lucky enough that my kids don’t really mind if something is vegan. If it’s something I’m not sure they will like, I don’t tell them what is in it, until they tell me they like it lol. Your banana bread looks so moist and delicious! Hard to resist!!
I love that your children are open to anything. That says so much about their wonderful mommy. Thank you for stopping by.
This looks amazing, moist and delicious. I have some spotty bananas and there’s always chocolate in the house so finding this recipe came at the perfect time. Thank you for sharing.
Hope you love it Julia.
This banana bread looks so good. I usually put chocolate chips but haven’t tried walnuts yet. I’ll have to try this recipe. Thank you!
